Our pilot studies with local communities and rural residents proved to very helpful exercises, providing full detailed comment and suggestions for improvement and use of the toolkit.

The project arose from a Developing and Living in a Sustainable Village seminar in November 2006 to discuss criteria that could help identify settlements which worked well as sustainable communities.
